Hello again. Back after a lovely weekend--quite action-packed, really. And a whole lot of fun, too.
Before we go any farther, if you haven't checked Theo's blog yet (link to the right), do so. I just posted two new postings today, taking care of the rest of January and February. One day I'll get caught up. Also, because I feel like I've been blogging all fargin' day, I'm going to keep this one short (famous last words).
So, here's a brief recap of the weekend. More details tomorrow.
First of all, the weather continues to be lovely. The snow is melting at a rapid pace; it got up to 15 degrees today, and beautiful for some of it (cloudy for the rest, but you can't have it all). I got out of the car last night and stepped onto gravel in our driveway for the first time in months. It was great.
The lovely weather provided quite a nice backdrop to the weekend, as well. Friday was school all day, as usual--nothing really exciting to report there. Had an interesting presentation in chapel that I'll talk about tomorrow (or at some point this week), but that's about it. Friday night, however, was another excellent Three Hills-style date, complete with chocolate bars, Frosters (the proprietary name for the "slurpee" at Mac's), and a game of Carcassonne. Excellent.
Saturday, now there was a day to remember. We decided on Friday night that now that the weather's nice, we'll make Saturdays our outing days. So, to kick it all off, we went to the Calgary Zoo. It was amazing. What a place. Theo had a great time (as did mom and dad), and we took some outstanding pictures, which we'll get to posting in a month, I guess. We even saw the new baby giraffe, born in November. Amazing.
After the zoo, we met up with a long-lost friend of Steph's (he's been in Alberta since before being in Alberta was cool) who she used to volunteer with at the Aquarium. Paul lives in Calgary now, and we got a chance to check out his new condo and have a visit. After the visit, we had a craving for sushi, so we asked him to recommend a place. We headed over there, but for some reason, there were no minors allowed, and that includes, obviously, babies. Not sure why--do they think that the babies are going to order liquor? And why is it an adults-only place to begin with? It wasn't like it was the management's choice either; they had a sign out front citing some bylaw. I'm going to have to ask more knowledgeable people than myself about this one. Fortunately, there are many candidates.
Having been disappionted there, we headed over to Tim Horton's for a rather ordinary meal. It was really, well, disappointing, especially after getting our hopes up for sushi.
After Tim's, we decided to hit Centre Street Church again, this time with the whole family. Service was better than last time, actually--the worship team seemed a little more sincere, and there was a choir, accompanied by an orchestra, which was neat. The lead pastor was set to speak too, but we bailed early because it was way past Theo's bedtime, and I was coming down with a doozy of a migraine, which made for a fun car ride home. Fortunately, there's this lovely thing called codeine (I never know if it's I before E in this case, but I just looked up the spelling).
Today, well, today was the Sabbath. Since we weren't going to church again this morning, we got to sleep in and take full advantage of the time change (hope you all remembered, too. Why do we bother, anyway?). Theo's back to his teething ways, but we see five teeth that are just about ready to break the surface, so we hope that happens soon. In the evening, we went over to some friends for dinner (yes, we actually got invited over to someone's house, thanks to Steph's mom's group that she goes to every week). It was fun, too, and I had my first peek inside the official student families housing, which was interesting (and hot). Fun times all around.
That brings us to right now. We just finished watching some Battlestar Galactica (now Steph is finally caught up with me and we can proceed through the rest of season 1), and it's time to hit the sack. If tonight is anything like last night, we've got some upset baby to look forward to--Tylenol is great until it wears off--so it's time for bed. Like I said, two new postings on Theo's blog to keep you entertained, so check those out. I'll be back here tomorrow as well, for a little more detail on the zoo experience, plus some random subjects of my choosing. See you then.
